In 2003, a quilter named Catherine Roberts started the movement that became Quilts of Valor when her son was deployed in Iraq. Since that time, over 189,729 Quilts of Valor have been awarded. Our mission is to honor service member and veterans who have been touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.
This quilt is an expression of gratitude meant to thank and comfort you. We believe that as we sew…love, caring, and gratitude flow from our hearts, through our hands, into the quilts we make. All of us, as quilters, want you to know that through our quilts, you are forever in our hearts. This Quilt of Valor unequivocally says thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation.
Today we award Deacon Dick Mulcahey with a Quilt of Valor. Dick Mulcahey served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Once home, he continued his life of service as a Durand High School teacher, catechist for St. Mary/St. Patrick parish, Representative to the Illinois House of Representatives, deacon for St. Mary/St. Patrick parish, Spiritual Advisor to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Through it all, Dick remained a dedicated husband, father and friend.
On behalf of the Quilts of Valor Foundation, Deacon Dick, thank you for allowing us to recognize you and present you with this Quilt of Valor, made by the ladies of St. Anne’s CCW, St. Mary/St. Patrick parish.
