Today we talked about what worship means and the Sacrament of Baptism. Most of the kids know what Baptism is but haven't really thought about their own Baptism. We discussed how this is our first official entry into the church and our Catholic faith.
We went on to learn about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. There are nine fruits, gifts, that the Holy Spirit blesses us with.
Fruits of the Holy Spirit:
1. Love: God loves us no matter what! 2. Joy: God gives us true happiness. 3. Peace: God forgives our sins. 4. Patience: God wants us to wait for answers to prayers. 5. Kindness: God wants us to be nice to everyone, at all times. 6. Goodness: God can depend on us. 7. Faithfulness: God wants us to keep our promises. 8. Gentleness: God wants us to use calm words and actions. 9. Self- Control: God wants us to control our words and actions.
By remembering the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and by following the Ten Commandments, we can live a truly blessed life. And by starting youngs, we are preparing ourselves for the next sacraments- First Holy Eucharist and First Reconciliation!
St. Leo the Great (391 – 461)
St. Leo the Great was the Pope during a period of violence in Rome. When the notorious Attila the Hun and his warriors came to attack the city, Pope Leo came out to talk to him. Seeing the Pope to be a man of God, Attila agreed to spare the city! Pope Leo also helped to remove many wrong beliefs and struggled to keep the unity of the Church. He promoted human dignity and equality, which were unusual ideas in his time. His feast day is on 10 November.
