October, just like May, is a month specially dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. One of the ways to honor Mary during this month is by praying the Rosary. Today we talked about Mary and why we pray the Rosary. Each child was given a Rosary along with a pamphlet explaining the mysteries and how to pray using the Rosary.
In class, we prayed a decade of the Rosary. Please try to talk to your student about how important Mary is to us. Not only is she the earthly mother of Jesus, but she's our Heavenly mother! We can take our prayers to her and ask her for guidance. Questions to ask your student: What does blessed mean? How did Mary show her courage to God? How can Mary's faith guide us?
St. Elizabeth of Hungary (1207 – 1231)
St. Elizabeth was a princess from Hungary. She was married at a young age to a German prince. Although she had everything, she led a life of prayer, sacrifice and service to the poor and sick, giving them money and building hospitals. When her husband died, his family threw St. Elizabeth out of the palace because of jealousy. However she was later returned her royal rights but she continued to live a life dedicated to God and helping the poor. She is the patron saint of bakers. Her feast day is on November 17th.
