Today we focused on one of our Sacraments- Reconciliation. We took a tour of the confessional. The students had the opportunity to walk into the room, sit in the chair, try out the kneeler, and view where the priest sits. We also talked about the process of Reconciliation and how our sins are absolved.
We practiced saying the Act of Contrition. Many of the students are still not familiar with this prayer. We will be receiving our First Reconciliation in about a month and all students will need to be able to recite this prayer for this Sacrament. The students also had prayer testing today on: The Ten Commandments, The Act of Contrition, The Hail Mary, and the Sign of the Cross.
St. Charles Borromeo (1538 – 1584)
St. Charles Borromeo was an Italian Cardinal who brought about many changes in the Church. As a nephew of Pope Pius IV, he had the opportunity to hold important positions. He was very concerned about the improper training of priests in local universities. So, St. Charles founded places called ‘seminaries’ or special schools to train priests. He also reformed his own life, giving up the privileges of high office to live a simple and holy life. He is the patron saint of seminarians. His feast day is on 4 November.
