Today we continued talking about the Ten Commandments and how to live them in our daily lives. We also added the Great Commandment to our list of ten. "Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matthew 22:37-39
In class, we made a small Commandment booklet which contains the Great and Ten Commandments. The booklet was added to our prayer can, which will be coming home at the end of the year.
At the end of each class, I hand out a small activity page. This page is for the child to work on while waiting for mass (10:30) to begin or to continue working on at home. It gives you a chance to ask your child what they did in class and gives them a little reminder of what we talked about. It is not homework, but a great tool to help with communication. The activity page will always go along with the day's lesson.
St. Josaphat Kuntsevych (1580 – 1623)
St. Josaphat Kuntsevych was a Bishop from Ukraine who lived during a time when the Church was threatened with a great division. St. Josaphat became a monk at 24 and when he became Bishop later, he continued to live a holy life like a monk. He worked hard to keep the unity of the Church. He was eventually martyred by some people who did not desire this unity.
St. Josaphat’s feast day is on November 12.
